Welcome to Liner Notes

(April 24, 2023) Former Tower of Power trombonist and Santana lead male vocalist Ray Greene is making new strides on his own with his anticipated album Stay, a disc that focuses on his love for soul music while digging deep into the varied stories about life and love. “Soul music is at the heart of this collection of songs,” he explains. “However, the record is also heavily influenced by artists and musicians from an array of different genres…elements of jazz improvisation, blues, gospel, pop and even reggae.”

Fresh out the gate comes “Shoulda Known Better,” a smooth R&B midtempo song defined by passionate crooning and dipped in a soulful gospel marinade. Greene approaches the song like Kem or Kenny Lattimore, but belts out the second half with thunderous ad-libs like a man devastated by scorching heartbreak. For those new to him, this is the perfect introduction to the vocal strength of Ray Greene, setting the trajectory for even more career breakouts to come.

Check out this First Listen of “Shoulda Known Better” and let us know what you think about it.

She is the most awarded female vocalist in the history of Media One's Readers' Choice Awards, with seven trophies. And Maysa Leak has meant all that and more to her fans over a thirty year career, both as part of supergroup Incognito and as a solo artist.

More recently, Maysa has added another title to her name: music entreprenuer. For several years she has independently been releasing one fantastic single after another under her own Blue Velvet Soul imprint, and now she has issued her first full album for the label (and 14th overall), Music For Your Soul.

It is an ambitious project, with 19 songs and a bevy of great collaborators. But at the center of it all is this one-of-a-kind talent who (to borrow a sports term) has "bet on herself," leaving nothing out by issuing a tremendous, far-reaching album that is reminiscent of the transcendent double albums that filled many of our youths.

We’re proud to present Music For Your Soul as our Album of The Month for April. Check it out below, and welcome Maysa back to Media One.
